Editorial Key Takeaways

This analysis is based on official Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRED) filings, historical peer valuation multiples, and exchange data. Figures are audited for institutional accuracy.

MV Electrosystems opens on 30 July 2026, a Rs 290 crore mainboard issue carrying a grey market premium of about Rs 75 - roughly 18 percent over its upper band.

The premium itself is respectable. What is more interesting is that it has been *rising* into the open - quoted near Rs 60 earlier in the week and firming to Rs 75 as bidding approaches. That shape matters more than the single number.

The issue at a glance

At Rs 290 crore this is a small-to-mid mainboard issue. A smaller book can be covered quickly and can move sharply on listing, in either direction.

What you can apply for

Category limits are set by SEBI, and crossing a threshold moves you into a different bucket with its own allotment mechanics.

CategoryApplication valueLots at cut-off
RetailUp to Rs 2 lakh1 to 13 lots
Small NII (sNII)Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh14 to 69 lots
Big NII (bNII)Above Rs 10 lakh70 lots and up

One lot at cut-off is Rs 14,450. Thirteen lots comes to Rs 1,87,850, just under the retail ceiling.

If the issue is oversubscribed, retail allotment is a lottery on applications, not on the rupees in them. Thirteen lots in one application does not raise your odds of getting something over one lot in that same application. Separate applications on separate PANs, each a different person applying legitimately, is what changes the arithmetic - the mechanics are laid out in our guide to [how IPO allotment actually works](/blog/how-ipo-allotment-works).

Reading a premium that is climbing

A GMP of 18 percent is a genuine signal of demand. But the more useful observation is the direction:

  • A rising premium into the open tends to reflect building appetite - a book that dealers expect to fill well. A single high number on one day says far less than a number that has climbed steadily over several.
  • It is still unofficial. No exchange, no regulator, no settlement record - a handful of private dealers quoting a thin market.
  • It is current, not predictive. Premiums routinely compress in the days before listing, and the gap between the last quoted GMP and the actual open has been wide in both directions.
  • Read the trend, not the level. A premium that rose from Rs 60 to Rs 75 and held there is a steadier signal than one that spiked and faded - but it is still sentiment, not a valuation. If you are new to the number, start with [what GMP actually is](/blog/what-is-gmp).

The dates that actually decide things

Bidding closes on 3 August. For mainboard issues the UPI mandate cut-off is 17:00 IST on the closing day, and a lapsed or unapproved mandate is one of the most common reasons an application silently fails - approve it when you apply, not on the last afternoon.

Basis of allotment is 4 August, with KFin Technologies as registrar. Registrars often publish late in the evening or in the small hours of the next morning, so nothing showing by dinner time on the 4th is normal rather than a problem.

Listing is 6 August on the NSE.

    The honest summary

MV Electrosystems is a small mainboard issue with a premium that has firmed into the open rather than faded - the more encouraging shape of the two. That is worth knowing, and it is still not a reason on its own to apply.

What should carry the decision is the prospectus: what the company does, what it earns, and how the valuation sits next to listed peers. A rising grey market quote tells you the mood is improving. It does not tell you what the business is worth.

*Nothing here is investment advice. Grey market premium is an unofficial indicator and we are not SEBI-registered analysts. Figures are as published at the time of writing and can change - check the red herring prospectus for the terms that apply to this issue.*
